Top five user flows

30 minutes

A user flow is a path someone takes to get something done — open the site, find a thing, finish a job. Write down your top five and score them. Send that in an email. Wait for the reply. Your first list will probably be average — the supervisor will recommend other user flows and give you their scores. Then you write a second email about how you could fix those flows.

Don't use AI for the list, the scores, or the fixes.

Before you write the flows, read User flows.

Before you score, read Scoring user flows.

Before you send either email, read Good emails.

  • the top 5 user flows, each as a short path (who does what, in what order)
  • a score for each flow using the criteria in Scoring user flows: easy 1–5, good 1–5, one sentence why each
  • after feedback: how you could fix the flows — one or two concrete changes each, not vibes

Submission

  1. Open your app. Write down the top five user flows. Keep each one short: steps a real person takes.
  2. Score each flow using the Scoring user flows note: easy 1–5, good 1–5, plus one sentence why for each score.
  3. Send one email with the whole list — every flow and every score. Do not include fixes yet.
  4. Wait for the supervisor's reply. They will give feedback, recommend user flows, and give you their scores.
  5. Reply in a second email: for the recommended flows, write how you could potentially fix each one — one or two concrete changes.
