Explain it back

Read through the exercise. Explain it back to your supervisor, verbally. The supervisor asks questions, to double-check you understand what is going on. Then they say “Go,” and you hit the timer.

This is advice, not a mandate. It helps the most common issue in all of software development: engineers thinking they understand a task or a problem, but having a subtle but very critical misunderstanding of something.
